The high-energy bluegrass band K.C. Groves with Jeff Scroggins & Colorado will perform at a Contra Dance that benefits Running River, an independent non-profit K-8 school that focuses on experiential and academic learning through nature. The annual fundraiser dance and Silent Auction will be at a new location this year: the Avalon Ballroom in Boulder, CO in order to accommodate an expected larger turnout of 300+ attendees. The event will feature the Band, and Contra dancing, led by caller Tina Fields. There will be a Silent auction and cash prize raffle, cash bar, and food trucks from Lulu's BBQ[?], Sweet Cow, Waffle Cakes among others. All proceeds from the event will go toward the Running River scholarship and arts program and support of a sister school in Uganda that Running River has helped for the past 10-years.
Join Melissa Michaels and some of our local Movement Goddesses for a monthly gathering of our Shakti Sisters. Together, we will practice, pray, and play, attending to the many facets of our lives as creative, open, and embodied women. Diverse Body-Centered women will lead these events. All of you are welcome.
Monday Evenings ~ March 10, April 14, May 12 and June 9, 2014
BSD's annual Spring workshop. Teachers and dances still to be determined, but focus will be on Sweden this year.
As part of our Spring Workshop, our visiting Swedish teachers will do a short presentation of Swedish folk-dance and music. After the performance, there will be open dancing--gammaldans and polskor, and probably some pols and springar as well. You do not need to be enrolled in the workshop to attend this event!
We invite you to consider an individual membership in the Village Arts Coalition (VAC). Members receive the STOMP! publication six times a year, may vote in VAC elections, and participate in many aspects of the coalition's projects. Membership rates are $10 for an individual, $15 for a couple, and $25 for a group membership.
If you have a participatory or performing group, we would love for you to join the VAC and list your events here on our website/portal! You will help make this become a comprehensive directory of all folk arts, music and dance activities in the area. For info about joining, please see the membership page.
